ART ISLANDS: Hydra-Summer Pop-up at Papagalos
In the port of Hydra Island, the mansion of Voulgaris family is the place that on May 2, 1959 Babis Mores got inspired and established Lagoudera club, one of the most legendary bars of the ’60s in the Mediterranean. In this unique space, for the past 15 years, Papagalos has been housed, an All Day Café Bar with great music, innovative juices, cocktails and food, a cosmopolitan atmosphere, and a deep love for art.

dreamideamachine resident Athens presents a Pop-up event with small scale artworks and bags for the beach in Papagalos All Day Café Bar, at the port of Hydra. In the welcoming loft of Papagalos, in collaboration with one of its owners, Mr. Kostas Acheilas, in 2014, dreamideamachine organized a highly successful Pop-Up featuring contemporary Greek artists. In 2019, we held a Journalism Seminar on Interviewing, inspired by Efi Michalarou’s book “in a’ singular & b’ plural” published by dreamideamachine.publications. This year marks the third time that dreamideamachine organizes another Pop-Up, presenting small scale artworks of contemporary Greek artists at very affordable prices, along with bags adorned with their artworks, perfect for the beach. The reason for this event is that the founders of dreamideamachine believe that art can be accessible to everyone and must be, in order to become a part of our daily lives. Art is a necessity, not a luxury. It broadens horizons, aids in our way of thinking, serves as an escape and a journey into dreams, and ultimately, the only antidote to death (!). Four contemporary artists among them two for Hydra: Annalina Fotopoulou, Panagiotis Rappas, Maria Stamati, Grigoria Vryttia and Dimitris Lempesis, a photographer born in the island, inspired and created artworks related to Hydra, the Greek Summer, and the nature that today, more than ever, is at the center of our attention due to its destruction and climate change. With a cooler and lighter approach, yet still quite serious, they make their own commentary in the limelight.
