OPEN CALL: Articulacions Study Program 2023–24 at Institut Valencià d’Art Modern

Institut Valencià d’Art ModernApplications are invited for Articulacions 2023–24, the second edition of IVAM’s Study Program, which will run from October 4, 2023 to June 28, 2024. Twenty-five participants will be selected and two scholarships will be awarded.

As an international program—although located in a specific territory—it aims to generate a learning context from which to face the urgencies and uncertainties of a globally wounded present that requires new working methods and ways of inhabiting the world. Post-identitarian feminisms, popular and decolonial practices, processes of globalization and virtuality, speculative and collective narratives and care of the planet are the frameworks that define the organization of the four modules of the program: (I) Contemporary Metabolic Practices, (II) Ruptures and Remediations of Discourse, (III) Walking with the Head, Thinking with the Feet and, finally, (IV) Singular/Plural. Respectively, practices, discourses, methodology and development of singular and plural projects weave the morning sessions (600 teaching hours, 60 ECTS).

The program is devised by a group of transdisciplinary professionals whose expertise spans live arts, curating, anthropology, literature, dramaturgy, activism and architecture as means to foster creative and political action. In order to encourage participants to articulate their practices collaboratively, each module involves leading figures in their fields, most of whom have worked or will work with IVAM and its partner institutions: Articulacions is not an isolated program, but an interdependent institutional effort. The program has partnered with the Universitat de València and the Universitat Politècnica de València, in a desire to articulate a more flexible, accessible and affordable proposal for creative communities. For this reason, Articulacions emphasizes the importance of collaborative work. As a result, participants joining the program will be part of a heterodox institutional model focused on careful attention to the processes of making and thinking, as well as to critical outcomes.

The participants will acquire critical transdisciplinary skills that will enable them to analyze, design and create cultural projects of diverse nature, both individually and in groups. Ultimately, participants will “think with” a community of professors with different academic and professional backgrounds, coming from different geographical areas, whose practices critically and incisively shape the way of understanding, testing and thinking contemporary art in its different expressions. The final proposals of the program will be made public at IVAM and partner organizations, offering the opportunity to carry out a real programming experience.

Faculty is comprised of Elvira Espejo Ayca, André Lepecki, Yinka Graves, Alejandra Riera, María Puig de la Bellacasa, Pedro G.
