OPEN CALL: Fluent Study Programme 2023
Applications are invited for Praxis 2023, the first edition of fluent’s Study Programme, which will run from September 20 through December 22, 2023.
The intensive programme runs during 14 weeks (180 contact hours) and is devised and organised by fluent, an arts organization devoted to rehearse radical imagination as a means to propitiate new ecologies of thought and action.
Reacting to the current conditions of great narrative and political anxiety in which emotion and affectivity are at the forefront of neoliberalism, Praxis articulates artistic and humanistic practices as socially transformative prospects, and methodologies to re–articulate aesthetics, forms of making and listening. In this, the words of Audre Lorde resonate with the logics and dinamycs that organize and structured this Study Programme: “(…) is a vital necessity of our existence. It forms the quality of the light within which we predicate our hopes and dreams toward survival and change, first made into language, then into idea, then into more tangible action. (…) It is the way we help give name to the nameless so it can be thought. The farthest external horizons of our hopes and fears are cobbled by our poems, carved from the rock experiences of our daily lives.”
Building from this ethos, the programme is open to a maximum of twenty participants and encourages applications from different fields of knowledge (artists, poets, curators, agroecologists, filmmakers, sociologists, theorists, choreographers, writers, philosophers, land-practitioners, performers, activists and other arts and humanities-related researchers or professionals). The diverse spectrum of practices seeks to unfold an experimental, ephemeral community of learning thus providing participants with free accommodation throughout the programme’s duration.
Besides regular lectures, working sessions, group discussions, seminars and workshops Praxis is structured in four modules: I. Vital dimension. II. Language, identity and representation. III. Structural dimension. IV. Bodily and movement dimension.
In order to encourage participants to articulate and develop their practices in relation with a series of fundamental axes within an intellectually rigorous, yet informal environment, each module is directed by leading figures in their fields. Offering insights and multiple perspectives on current thinking inside and outside—but always in relation to—the fields of art and the humanities, modules are devised by a range of internationally renowned practitioners such as CAConrad, Denise Ferreira da Silva, Stefano Harney, Dodie Bellamy, Yayo Herrero, Lamin Fofana, Maurin Dietrich, Reto Pulfer, Paulino Viota, B. Ingrid Olson, Michael Marder, Ibon Aranberri, Andrea Rodrigo & Isabel de Naveran, Agustín Pérez Rubio, Inland Campo Adentro, Bárbara Rodríguez Muñoz, Andrea Soto Calderón, Alejandro Alonso Díaz and many others still to be confirmed.
