OPEN CALL: Artist Residency Programs at the School of Visual Arts

Residencies and intensives in studio art, technology, performance, social practice, design and more.

Applications are now available for SVA’s Artist Residency Programs—on-campus in New York City and across online platforms, offering artists, designers and creative thinkers time, space and a supportive community in which to develop ideas and focus on their artistic direction.

Overview
Daily critiques, workshops, studio visits, lectures, and social events augment participants’ independent work. Participants in the artist residency programs have the benefit of working in SVA’s dynamic, culturally rich environment. Each program offers access to its own unique set of resources and spaces, whether on-campus or online, that have been designed with artists and creative thinkers in mind. With an emphasis on shared experience and community building, SVA’s Artist Residency Programs provide a platform where participants can build and expand their networks and create lifelong connections with artists, critics, curators and other arts professionals.

Residency programs and intensives offered during summer 2023: Building Brands with Type, Design Writing and Research (Online), Fine Arts: Contemporary Practices (June Session), Fine Arts: Contemporary Practices (July Session), Fine Arts: Painting and Mixed Media (June Session), Fine Arts: Painting and Mixed Media (July Session), Illustration and Visual Storytelling: Art and Industry (June Session), Illustration and Visual Storytelling: Art and Industry (July Session), Interdisciplinary Practices in Bio Art , Public Performance Art and Actions, Photo and Video x Studio Practices.

Recent faculty and guest lecturers have included: Suzanne Anker, Dara Birnbaum, Andriana Campbell, Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow, Ofri Cnaani, Jarrett Earnest, Ayana Evans, Stamatina Gregory, Alicia Grullon, Steve Heller, Tobias Frere-Jones, Sharon Louden, Miguel Luciano, Thyrza Nichols-Goodeve, Anna Ogier-Bloomer, Sheila Pepe, Seph Rodney, David Ross, Jerry Saltz, Accra Shepp, Andrea Tsurumi, Todd Shalom, and Ed Woodham.

The priority application deadline is April 1, 2023. Early application is highly recommended.
