OPEN CALL: Professorship for Building Typology and Design
The Department of Architecture—as part of the Division “Natural and Built Environment”—of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) invites applications for a W3—Professorship for Building Typology and Design at the Institute of Design, Art and Theory (EKUT) to be commenced at the summer semester 2024. The professorship is part of the collegial management of the Institute.
The tasks of the professorship include the education of students in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in architecture with a special focus on the theme of building typology. The supervision of final theses as well as the promotion of young academics belong to the scope of duties.
Questions of building typology are to be central to the professorship’s research, acquisition of third-party funds, international visibility, networking, symposia and publication of academic work. KIT offers the opportunity to participate in extensive infrastructures.
We assume that candidates have a good command of English and we expect the willingness to learn German.
The holder of the professorship is expected to represent the subject of building design in its full breadth and to develop it in a progressive manner. An active role in the self-administration of the KIT-Department, the Division as well as the KIT-Centers is expected.
Qualification:
We seek architects who have distinguished themselves through their practice and research by both creating an outstanding body of work in architecture and by demonstrating excellent scientific-methodological skills. They should be eager to bring these achievements to their teaching and research at the KIT-Department of Architecture.
The candidate’s own work should demonstrate concentrated research-through-design on building typology, especially in regard to current societal, ecological, and cultural aspects.
In addition to the general requirements under civil service law, the requirements for employment include a university degree in architecture, pedagogical aptitude and didactic skills, as well as a special aptitude for academic/scientific work, as evidenced by a doctorate, habilitation, or equivalent achievements.
Employment conditions as outlined in section 47 LHG (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges) in conjunction with section 20 KITG (KIT-Act) in the version applicable until the legal validity of the 2. KIT-Weiterentwicklungsgesetz (2nd KIT Further Development Act) shall apply.
