REVIEW: Ilias Papailiakis-Toy Factory
One of the exhibitions that you really shouldn’t miss, since it ends this week, is “Toy Factory”, Ilias Papailiakis’ solo exhibition in the gallery in the third floor of Parnassos Literary Society. A surprising exhibition and that’s because I had a long time to visit an exhibition in a similar place in Athens and feel that it is of international standards, with the artworks dialoguing with the space, as if they were made especially for it and in complete harmony with the natural light that emerges from the atrium. Papailiakis’ wonderful sweeps of a pen that captivated us in recent years, through sublimation and minimalism, succeed and tell the most powerful stories. However, as I very often point out, the role of the curator is also important, his curatorial proposal, the theoretical axis that determines the exhibition and the way the visual narrative is created. Christoforos Marinos in the case of “Toy Factory” has masterfully achieved this.-Efi Michalarou
