OPEN CALL: 2022 Fellows at Project Row Houses and University of Houston Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts
The University of Houston Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts and Project Row Houses (PRH) have developed a fellowship program supported by a gift from Suzanne Deal Booth that builds on leadership, community engaged art and social practice projects. The fellowship program brings artists, cultural practitioners, urban planners, educators, and policymakers to engage with the PRH process, a community of scholars in the McGovern College, and the greater Houston community. Seeking two new fellows- one local to Houston and one nonlocal -whose practice would benefit from a yearlong research intensive mentorship. During the fellowship year, the fellows will focus on community engaged creative practices and research with the opportunity for public introduction of prior work, a co-developed community event and presentation of research-to-date at the end of the fellowship. In addition to the mentorship from PRH and KGMCA, the two fellows will each receive a 15,000 USD stipend, a research grant and access to a community brain trust.

Project Row Houses is a community platform that enriches lives through art with an emphasis on cultural identity and its impact on the urban landscape. We engage neighbors, artists, and enterprises in collective creative action to help materialize sustainable opportunities in marginalized communities.
Project Row Houses occupies a significant footprint in Houston’s Historic Third Ward, one of the city’s oldest African-American neighborhoods. The site encompasses five city blocks and houses 39 structures that serve as a home base to a variety of community-enriching initiatives, art programs, and neighborhood development activities.
