OPEN CALL: Professorship for Contemporary Digital Media position at Academy of Fine Arts Munich
The following position is available to be filled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich beginning in the fall term 2022/23: Artistic W3 Professorship for Contemporary Digital Media.
The academy is seeking an internationally renowned, open-minded artist whose artistic practice involves working with state-of-the-art digital media (e.g., virtual reality, 3-D animation, artificial intelligence, cyberart) and who examines the field of tension between digitalization, the environment, and society in a reflective and theoretically versed way. The Professorship for Digital Media is part of the Fine Arts course of study.
In addition to a university degree relevant to the prospective field of work as well as multiple years of experience as a practicing artist, the requirements include:
–Outstanding artistic qualifications as can be verified by exhibitions, awards, and publications.
–Technical and practical knowledge and skills in the area of state-of-the-art digital technologies as well as the openness to consistently engage with new approaches and technological developments in one or more of the digital media mentioned above,
–Close familiarity with theoretical discourses on contemporary digital media.
–Besides developing and leading a class, the willingness to carry out projects in the area of digital media across classes and courses of study.
–Collaboration on the development of the digital infrastructure at the academy and the raising of external funds.
Applicants are required to have the corresponding educational qualifications as well as to be willing to be active within the scope of the self-administration of the academy.
The hiring conditions are pursuant to Section 7 of the Bayerisches Hochschulpersonalgesetz (Bavarian Higher Education Personnel Act) from 23 May 2006 (BayHSchPG), the service law-related professorship status to Section 8 of the BayHSchPG, and the job-related duties to Section 9 of the BayHSchPG. Persons who have already turned 52 years of age cannot be granted civil servant status. Persons who are beyond 52 years of age may be employed as salaried professors. Probational civil service can be converted into tenured civil service status after 18 months at the earliest (Section 8 BayHSchPG).
