TRAVELER’S DIARY: Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac
The musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac is one of the most beautiful museum buildings, not only its interior but also the exterior. It was built by the French architect Jean Nouvel with the main feature of the building the vegetation around it and the surrounding glass windows that often replace the walls, making it the only museum that the light can penetrates the rooms and the exhibits. Opening in 2006, the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac contains the collections of its double inheritance: those of the “musée de l’Homme” and of the “musée national des Arts d’Afrique et d’Océanie”. With more than 370,000 objects, 700,000 iconographical pieces and more than 200,000 reference works, the museum is one of the richest European public institutions dedicated to the study, preservation and promotion of non-European arts and civilizations. Unique are both its periodic exhibition that have their focus on different countries, as well as the presentation of its permanent collection that is regularly updated through objects, furniture, jewelry, masks and carpets extends to all continents, history, culture.
