OPEN CALL: Assistant Professor of Expanded Photography position at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University

The Department of Art & Design at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Expanded Photography at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin September 1, 2022.

We seek to recruit a broadly diverse faculty dedicated to cultivating visual and creative literacy, experimentation, critical dialogue, and equity within an interdisciplinary arts community situated in a leading public research university. The ideal candidate will have conceptual and technical grounding in the full complement of analog and digital photography. They should have knowledge of histories and theories of photography; an ability to teach all practices of fine art photography, preferably including both analog and digital; experience with related media, which might include new technologies, installation, film, video, performance, and/or social practice; and should have broad knowledge and understanding of contemporary art. Candidates should be active in their field, with a significant record of professional achievement and a demonstrated commitment to teaching. Preference will be given to candidates with at least three years of collegiate-level or equivalent teaching experience. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the potential to fully participate and thrive in an interdisciplinary arts environment, including a willingness to provide overall service to and potential academic leadership within the department and the school.

The position entails teaching undergraduate and graduate studio and seminar classes from introductory to advanced levels; teaching and advising graduate students working in all media; assisting in student recruitment, curriculum development, mentoring and overseeing graduate assistants; and serving on departmental and university committees.

Minimum education and experience
MFA in Art or equivalent degree/experience is required as well as teaching experience, with a preference for at least three years teaching at the collegiate level. The candidate must also demonstrate technical and conceptual grounding in the full complement of analog and digital photography as well as knowledge of contemporary art and the theory and history of photography.
