Trondheim Academy of Fine Art seeks Associate Professor or Professor in Fine ArtThe Trondheim Academy of Fine Art at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) seeks applications from artists for a 100% fixed-term position of four years as Associate Professor or Professor with a focus on Material and spatial practices, with the possibility of prolongation. Applicants are expected to rethink and challenge artistic practices in and around the material and spatial through investigations of new contexts and modes of operation in the field. The Trondheim Academy of Fine Art at NTNU is committed to exploring future roles and possibilities for artists in society. The Trondheim Academy of Fine Art is a department within the Faculty for Architecture and Design at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). It is organized as a flexible and experimental educational and research institution. The Department has 22 staff members including five PhD-candidates, and about 80 students in our bachelor and master programs.

The Trondheim Academy of Fine Art is seeking an artist with outstanding artistic practice on international level, and a distinct teaching experience based on a coherent approach to art education.

Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the position are teaching, artistic research, and artistic development within the expanded field of material and three-dimensional artworks and sculptural processes, with an emphasis on material and spatial practices in contemporary art.

The position requires a serious commitment to explore the potentials of an art academy embedded within a University for Science and Technology. Applicants are expected to show genuine enthusiasm for the opportunity to relocate the centre of their professional activities to the premises of the art academy in Trondheim. Doing so will enable successful candidates to share the processes and outcomes of their artistic research and production with the University, its local contexts, and its broader national and international networks.

The position involves specific responsibilities for advancing and articulating the department’s study programs and research capacities. The (Associate) Professor will be responsible for individual tutoring and teaching courses in the Bachelor and the International Master program in Fine Art, as well as supervising fellows in a PhD program in artistic research. These study programs are designed to educate artists in ways that develop and enrich their individual studio practice with cross-disciplinary investigations that engage a wide range of forms and fields of knowledge. This requires, among other things, both a broad overview of learning methods and outcomes as well as a critical individual approach to pedagogical formats, from the traditional to the speculative.
