VIDEO:Waving the Future II (Larissa)-Theodora Tsiatsiou

Waving the Future II (Larissa) Theodora Tsiatsiou“Ιmprisoneds” by Theodora Tsiatsiou is full of female symbolisms: sexuality, female body control, childbearing, childbirth, abortion, miscarriage, the consciousness of the feminine nature that the body itself reminds, are the fields that come into crisis. Sometimes are obvious and sometimes are implied, as the thin fabric covering the shrine suggests. The deformed-entangled bodies, which refer to the female breast, the various parts of the female and male body that are involved in the erotic-fertilizing process, figures that the artist calls “contemporary idols” are placed in an environment reminiscent of a temple-shrine in order to create a place of worship, for the greatness of the female entity but also as a reminder of the stereotypes, the power of the patriarchy. While the temple-shrine object, has lost its sanctity, trapping all the “Ιmprisoneds” it manages at the same time to maintain something of its symbolic and intensely emotional load.
