ART FAIRS:Affordable Art Fair Singapore 2015
Founded by Will Ramsay the Affordable Art Fair was organized as an alternative to the traditional Gallery scene, first launched in Battersea Park, London, England, in 1999, Affordable Art Fairs now take place in 14 cities across the world. The fairs take place annually, with the exception of Singapore, Battersea and New York, which hold spring and autumn editions.

For the 6th Autumn Edition of the Fair, 86 local and international galleries, showcasing original contemporary work from more than 600 artists, all priced between $100 and $10,000. Before the application of the gallery apply reviewed by the selection committee, must follow some simple rules: a minimum of three living artists to be shown, and that all works are original and priced between $100 and $10,000, with 75% of the work below $7,500. The exhibitions “At Source“ and “The Quest: The Exquisite Rice Bow” both explore the concept of life, the concept of social behaviors and the individual against the realities and applications of modern art. Both co-incidentally have taken up the twin positions of cartoon drawings respectively, these being the main mediums used by social commentators in the ‘50s to the ‘70s Singapore broadsheets. The exhibition “Hunger” is a powerful photographic dissertation of a society’s cry against political strongholds with characters that are representative of past, present and future ideologists. The Young Talent Programme, provides a significant platform for young artists below the age of 35, to be spotted by galleries and art institutions. The programme is open to all artists 18 – 35 years old, who are born/resident in South East Asia and who do not currently have gallery representation. This year the selected artists are: Chong Yanhong, Christopherson Ho Rong Wen, Fiona Seow, Justin Lim, Ho Leng, Lim Jia Ning Michelle, Wang Jue and Yeo Jian Long. All talks and workshops are held in the Art Education Space with highlight the talks: “Hindu Iconography in Modern Art”, Vidhya Gnana Gouresan, speaks about the cultural influences and contexts behind the majestic images of Hindu Art and “Spanish Realism: Inception and Today”, in this talk Weiren Loh, visitors will catch a glimpse of the Spanish realist movement of the past and how it impacts the works of contemporary Spanish realist artists such as Guillermo Munoz Vera and Monica Dixon
