ARoS Aarhus Art Museum seeks Museum DirectorCan your leadership and commitment take our art museum to the next level?

ARoS is looking for an experienced and dedicated director to take the museum to the next level in its positive development. With its 20,700 square metres spread over 10 floors and around 600,000 visitors yearly, ARoS is one of Northern Europe’s largest art museums and one of the most visited art museums in Scandinavia.

The new museum director will be pivotal to ensure our strategic and operational objectives in the future. It is ARoS’ ambition to become one of the 10 most relevant art museums in the world. This must be achieved by doing things in new and untraditional ways, where the museum, among other things, collaborates closely with the surrounding community including corporate as well as public stakeholders.

Among the key challenges are the implementation of our expansion project “The Next Level” consisting of an underground exhibition gallery of 1,000 square metres including the work The Dome by James Turrell, which will offer an internationally unique art experience. Furthermore, a need to attract new target groups, to further strengthen our digital impact both in the administrative and artistic fields, and to support continued organisational development.

As our new director you will become responsible for the artistic profile of ARoS and for the daily operations of the museum. You will represent the museum, ensuring that ARoS is a significant voice in the societal debate. You will continue the work of raising the museum’s national and international profile and strengthen the strategic, artistic, and financial support for the museum from partners, foundations, and public authorities.

To succeed you must have a relevant professional background and solid managerial experience from a major cultural institution in Denmark or abroad. You are a proficient communicator who will have visions and ambitions on behalf of the museum. You are able to develop positive collaboration at local, national and international levels and to provide loyal, competent and proactive advice to the governing board.
