OPEN CALL:Hafnarborg AIR Call for 2021
Hafnarborg – the Hafnarfjörður Centre of Culture and Fine Arts operates an Artist-in-Residence program on the top floor of the museum building at Strandgata 34 in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. Welcoming artists of various disciplines, the programme is mainly intended for foreign artists. The application form can be found below or at our website.
Duration of residency
The apartment is allocated for a month at a time, the residency period beginning with the first date of each month and ending with the last. However, it is not required that artists stay for the entire duration of the residency.
Accommodation
The premises are 80 sq. m., divided into kitchen, dining room, bathroom, workspace and bedroom. The apartment is fully equipped with utensils and appliances, linen, towels, washing machine, dryer, telephone and internet connection. The apartment is located in the heart of Hafnarfjörður, close to the main bus stop in town, offering frequent trips to downtown Reykjavík.
Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
Hafnarborg encourages visual artists of various disciplines to apply for the residence. The studio is a modest workspace, without technical equipment, as artists are expected to provide tools and material for their own creative work. The museum staff may offer assistance or advice on various matters.
Fees and support
The residence fee is 500 euros per month, with payment being due at least three months prior to arrival. The fee includes electricity, heating, local telephone calls and internet connection.
Expectations towards the artist
Hafnarborg is dedicated to providing artists with the opportunity of visiting Iceland in search of inspiration, whether it be found in the unique landscape and nature of the island or the small local communities. Expectations are otherwise minimal. Still, there is always a possibility of hosting an open studio or artist talk, by mutual agreement of the artist and Hafnarborg, but this is not required.
Application deadline: 2020-11-30
