Dorothy Iannone, Ta(Rot) Pack, 2009, 3.75 x 5 inches, offset cards, wooden box, signed and numbered, edition 100 + 10 AP, Published by The New Museum, New York, USALove is the inspiration of Dorothy Iannone’s work “The (Ta)Rot Pack”, a series of twenty-seven cards depicting the life of Dieter Roth, her beloved and muse, in the early period of their relationship. During 1968-69, Dorothy Iannone worked on the cards while they were living in Düsseldorf where Dieter was professor at the Academy of Art, and in Reykjavik where he sometimes lived in order to see his children from a former marriage and in Villefranche-sur-Mer in France. Each card of “(Ta)Rot Pack” which has virtually no relation to the original Tarot cards, brings something. That something is the consequence of the activity which is visually presented. For instance, Dieter Roth teaching his students brings “Patience”, Dieter Roth and Dorothy Iannone I joined in a complete embrace “Brings What Everyone Wants”, Dieter Roth cooking brings “Innocence”, Dieter Roth embracing his children brings “Warmth”, “Reverence” depicts Dieter Roth engaged in cunnilingus. On one corner of the cards, she copied an image from Dieter Roth ‘s works. -Dimitris Lempesis
