Over the course of many discussions with the galleries involved and Liste’s partners, the desire to physically show art again and to connect through direct exchanges has become clear. A majority of the galleries originally selected to participate in Liste 2020 have decided to commit to our new date and location, with the awareness that visiting Liste will probably only be possible for a local and primarily European audience. However, galleries that cannot be physically present due to travel restrictions will still have the opportunity to present their artists: Liste is introducing a host/guest model wherein galleries at the fair will show works by their own artists as well as works by artists of galleries that are unable to travel to Basel. The safety and health of all visitors, exhibitors and team members is of the highest priority for Liste. When it comes to holding the event, all official health and precautionary recommendations will be followed. The situation in Switzerland has stabilised and the Swiss Federal Council further relaxed measures to contain the coronavirus on 19 June (for example, events of 300 people are now allowed). As these conditions are favourable to Liste and its size, we will be able to follow necessary safety protocols and thus carry out the fair. In order to be able to implement the necessary safety measures in the best possible way, for the first time since its foundation, Liste will not take place at Werkraum Warteck pp, but rather at Dreispitzhalle, which is within the Campus of Arts, a centre for creativity and artistic practices. The hall, which will be the future location of Kunsthaus Baselland, is characterised by spaciousness—something that is crucial in these times. The safety protocol that we will develop for this location will be based on the specifications given by the Swiss Federal Council and the Canton of Basel-Stadt and will be published in mid-August. Should there be any changes, Liste will inform you immediately.

In addition to the fair, Liste Art Fair will launch a new initiative, Liste Showtime, in September. This is both an online platform for the galleries, where they can present an artist from their programme in detail and offer works for sale, and a collaborative artist project in which artists selected by the galleries will address the theme “Rewriting Our Imaginations” in the form of a poster. The posters will be exhibited and sold in a web shop on the new Liste Showtime website. Detailed information about Liste Showtime will follow soon.
