Umeå Academy of Fine Arts is looking for a Professor of Fine Arts 50%, starting according to agreement.
The School of Arts belongs to the Faculty of Humanities and is located on the Arts Campus. 75 students, about 10 employees and a large number of guest teachers work in a dynamic and international environment. The Academy of Fine Arts has a 3-year bachelor’s program (BFA) and a 2-year master’s program (MFA), both of which are divided into various courses. International contacts and exchanges are important parts of the education. Each summer one or two summer courses are offered. Artistic research has been conducted at the department for more than a decade and is an important area of development.

Position description and duties
Based on the scope of the employment, 60% includes teaching and 40% research.
The position includes teaching at the undergraduate level and advanced levels, artistic research, as well as internal and external collaboration and administrative work. The tasks also include initiating research, for example through applying for external research funding, with the responsible researchers developing applied seminars, to maintain knowledge on the development of the research field and to development external contacts, while contributing to the development of the university, the institution and the subject. Teaching and supervision take place at the undergraduate level and advanced levels. The appointment’s duties can vary over time and the distribution of tasks is based on the current conditions and needs of the institution as well as the applicable regulations.
Assessment criteria
Artistic skill must have been demonstrated through the candidate’s own artistic production or activities and development in artistic fields.
Artistic skill refers to documented expressivity, depth and originality in artistic activities through productivity, visibility and value in practice and professional contexts. In addition, artistic skill refers to independent artistic research and development work, awards and scholarships, collaboration with the surrounding society and other qualifications in the field. A research degree with an artistic basis or equivalent is a requirement.
It is a merit to have received research funding for artistic research as well as being a member of research councils in the artistic field.
The pedagogical skills must have been demonstrated through documented experience of teaching on an artistic basis within a university.
Pedagogical skill is recognised as ability to continuously review and structure the practice and development of the subject, to convey practical and theoretical knowledge, commitment and interest in the subject, and to activate student learning. This requires solid subject knowledge as well as a capacity to systematicatelly renew and one’s own compence. This competence also requires knowledge of art academy students’ learning, an ability to plan, teach, examine and evaluate university education as well as an ability to support the learning of different individuals and groups. Furthermore, it requires an ability to utilize, analyse and communicate the applicant’s and others’ experience and practice. Pedagogical competence also refers to the ability to adopt a reflective approach to one’s own teaching role, as well as knowledge of society’s goals and regulations for higher education.
The pedagogical skill level should have been acquired in teaching at the undergraduate and advanced levels.
Other assessment bases include skill in developing the subject area as well as in developing collaboration with other subject areas, good individual collaboration ability, administrative skills and other aptitudes that are considered a prerequisite for the successful completion of the duties.

The employment is 50% and is limited to 5 years. Place of employment is Umeå, Sweden and a high level of attendance at the department is a requirement.
