ART-REVIEW:Christian Boltanski-Life In The Making

Exhibition view: Christian Boltanski Life In The Making, Centre Pompidou-Paris, 2019, Photo Dimitris LempesisΙ believe that I know the whole body of work of Christian Boltanski,, even very early works that nothing reminds or connects them with his mature period, as he told me two years ago along at Marian Goodman’s Gallery bookstore, where his series “Saynètes Comiques” (1974) was on show as a supplement of his solo exhibition “Faire-part” at Marian Goodman Gallery in Paris. Christian Boltanski was present all day long explaining -communicating his work to the visitor. Also I have seen his works at the Venice Biennale years back, and occasionally at La maison rouge, at Musée d’Art Moderne de de Paris and at Centre Pompidou. So, I belong not only to those who like his work but also Ι admire him and follow his work closely. His big solo exhibition, “Life In The Making”, with 50 artworks designed in the form of a labyrinth is much smaller in size than I expected, to be a small retrospective. But is a well-staged exhibition with different artworks from different periods of his career, giving the visitor a taste of Boltanski’s work, except the exhibition’s last part, since some of the works are very chatty and fancy, away from the main body of the artist’s work. However, for those who are or will visit Paris till 16/3/2020, it is important to visit it in order to take a sneak peek in the work of a great artist. Efi Michalarou
