Jan Van Eyck AcademieThe Jan van Eyck Academie is looking for a curator to join the team. The curator will be the liaison for the artists-in-residence and will work in close collaboration with the director an other team members to develop the public, artistic program of the academy.

About
As a post-academic, multidisciplinary institute, the Jan van Eyck Academie provides its participants with the time, space and expertise needed to develop their artistic practice in depth.

Visual artists and designers of all disciplines—graphic/fashion/food/architecture, curators, writers and researchers from all over the world, can stay at the academy for one year and make use of all its facilities. Each individual participant has their own studio, can sign up for weekly visits by various (guest)advisers and have access to well-equipped Labs (Printing & Publishing, Wood and Metal, Photography and New Media, a Library, a Food Lab and a Lab for Nature Research). Next to the public programme, participants have the opportunity to collaborate and organize their own series of events, talks, workshops, conferences and presentations.

The academy will expand its programming to incorporate issues such as climate change, sustainability and other global urgencies. An annual research focus (next year water scarcity and the third pole area) will be introduced to stimulate critical discourse amongst participants and the public alike.

Responsibilities
–The curator will work closely with participants (about 50 annually). She/he will act as an adviser to the participants and their practice and as a liaison between them, the institute and other, external parties
–The curator should be informed about the practices of each participant and meet their needs as best as possible
–The curator will be part of the committee selecting new participants
–The curator will advise and supervise the so-called In-Lab projects, collaboratively initiated by participants
–The curator will work closely with the director in developing a theoretical discursive
–Together with the director, staff members and the participants, the curator will conceptualize, plan and execute the public program (talks, exhibitions, presentations, collaborative projects, etc.)
–The curator will be responsible for curating the annual Open Studios
–The curator will provide content for all texts related to the public program
–The curator will work together with partner institutions on local, national, and international level
–The curator will actively seek (inter)national partnerships

Requirements
–A degree and/ or experience in Curating, Art History, Art Education, Arts Administration / Production, Cultural or Curatorial Studies or another related field
–Have affinity and experience in working with a multitude of artistic disciplines
–2 or more years of curatorial experience
–Experience in working with(in) a cultural institution
–Knowledge of the world of international contemporary art and design, and its discourses
–Innovative, fresh ideas for conceptualizing and realizing the public program
–Will be required to settle in Maastricht or vicinity thereof
–Will be required to travel frequently
