MIRAGES LV
Except holiday season, August is full of exhibitions in summer resorts worldwide and also an opportunity for the visitors of big cities to enjoy exhibitions at the big Museums like: Tate in London, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Mumok in Vienna, Serralves Museum in Porto and Guggenheim, MoMA and New Museum in New York
And if the Greek islands, from Sifnos and Mykonos to Andros, Syros, Rhodes, Santorini and Crete have a place of honour in contemporary art exhibition, Hydra really holds the scepter this year because except Kiki Smith’s exhibition “Memory” at Deste Project Slaughterhouse Hydra, at the island’s Merchant Marine Academy ion view is the exhibition “Awe” curated by Dimitris Antonitsis, that is also the 20th in the series of exhibitions organized by Hydra School Projects (HSP). Except the main venue in Island’s Merchant Marine Academy the exhibition spans in 24 different spaces of the island. “Hydra By Art” as we name it, we will explore the artworks of “Awe” from the Historical Archive-Museum of Hydra (IAMY) to hotels, restaurants, bars, pastry shops, bakeries, clothing stores, jewelry shops, pet shops, hair salonς and everywhere else you can imagine (!)
Also in August at Workshop Hydra will be inaugurated a big Retrospective of Nikos Stefanou. In both painting and stage design, Nikos Stefanou knows how to create, with his own hands and simple materials, a magical world for the viewer. The tribute, which includes about 40 paintings, maquettes of stage designs, a large collection of constructions, toys and small sculptures, is organized by Hydra Arts Lab of Common Benefit Enterprise of Hydra Municipality (ΚΕΔΥ) and curated by the artist Alexis Veroukas, friend of the artist,
Finally, do not forget the artists and the architects whose names are interwoven with this month, at the column “Traces” the artists: Allan Mc Collum, Enrico Castellani, Andy Warhol, Bresson, Man Ray, Ai Weiwei. As for the Architects they are: Sou Fujimoto, Shigeru Ban, Jean Nouvelle, Svere Ferhn
