OPEN CALL:Piet Zwart Institute Seeks Graduation Supervisor and Tutor for Theory and Practice Seminar
The Master of Education in Arts at Piet Zwart Institute invites qualified candidates to apply for a staff position as a tutor of the Theory and Practice Seminar and graduation supervisor, with the possibility of further involvement in the program.
To complement the current team, we seek a candidate with a strong affiliation with and knowledge about practice based, empirical, educational research as well as practice-led, artistic research and the ability to unpack both research methods to students. Extensive knowledge about contemporary developments in art and design education and the ability to be able to converse between different levels (secondary, higher art education, museum education, participatory practices), is highly recommended. For this position, it is essential to be able to connect research, theory and practice in a stimulating, critical and engaging manner. The role requires working closely with students and being able to support their research interests.
The Master Education in Arts is designed for educators in the field of secondary and higher art and design education, museum educators, as well as artists and designers with an interest in pedagogical practices, or cultural professionals working outside an institutional environment (workshops, labs, et cetera.). Tasks include:
–To familiarize the students with a conception of research as the movement between pedagogical/educational practice and critical reflection/theorizing.
–To teach students the basic difference between practice-based, empirical research (theoretically and pedagogically underpinning, designing and evaluating educational projects) and practice-led research (artistic research, collective/participatory practices).
–To critically read and discuss relevant theoretical texts and built a common set of theoretical references.
–To teach students how to structure and document research material, creating meaningful connections and building a narrative.
–To familiarize students with academic writing skills, and how to meticulously frame their research.
–To familiarize students how to document and analyse different kinds of documentation material of practice-based and practice-led research.
–To teach research by presenting and discussing inspiring and exemplary research practices.
Qualification requirements
–Ample experience in teaching and supervising at a master level within the field of art and design education.
–Excellent English language proficiency.
–Ability to handle both education and “organisational” tasks related to the role.
–Master-level degree in a relevant field

The Piet Zwart Institute offers a notable professional, progressive and international educational environment. The post holder reports directly to the Course Director, and she or he would work collaboratively with other core tutors within MEiA’s integrated curriculum structure.
Salary and employment conditions
The Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool Rotterdam) offers a contract of FTE 0.15, with the possibility for extension and future permanent contract. The salary range is HBO-CAO grade 11-12 (EUR 3560,72 minimum and EUR 5,564.23 maximum gross per month) for fulltime employment, exclusive of 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. Our fringe benefits include an attractive pension scheme. It is possible to negotiate offsetting travel costs for the right candidate.
