OPEN CALL:Pioneer Works 2019 Tech Residency
Founded in 2012, the Pioneer Works Residency provides free studio space for experimental and innovative practitioners in visual art, music, and technology, and is committed to supporting cutting edge contemporary work in all stages of progress from conception to final production. Residencies offer artists a unique, public-facing, and multi-disciplinary program that supports artists and creators from a variety of fields in research, production, and new hybrid forms of practice.
Overview
The Technology Department at Pioneer Works is a research and development space that hosts an experimental media artist residency. Our program supports creatives through access to advanced tools, practiced engineers and connection to a larger multidisciplinary community. Our department encourages socially critical residents, engaging with emerging technology, who identify in the spectrum of artist and technologist.
We are now accepting applications to our Technology Residency for 2019-2020 to support emerging artists through 12 week residencies. The department is composed of two coworking labs within Pioneer Works and partnered facilities in Brooklyn. While at Pioneer Works, residents benefit from resources including desk space, recording studio, print lab, bookstore, garden, a dedicated monthly open studios called Second Sundays, as well as a series of studio visits with established curators and writers. We also provide a materials stipend and consultation with experienced technical staff to assist in project development.
Eligibility
Currently enrolled students are not eligible. We are not able to offer funding at this time, but we can assist with grant applications by providing letters of support. This is a project-oriented residency and though it is not important for projects to be finished within the period of residence, we are looking for projects with a coherent scope. In your proposal, let us know how you would best use our lab and resources to assist you in project development.
Selection Process
A jury of curators, past resident artists, and Pioneer Works staff will convene to consider candidates for 2019. Selected residents will be announced on March 1st.
