ART FAIRS:Art Brussels 2015
In recent years, Brussels has been experiencing its own cultural renaissance, most notably in contemporary visual arts. The city itself continues to attract the attention of new artists, galleries and curators internationally. The strong collector base in Belgium (Belgian and international) further reinforces the position of Art Brussels as one of the major cultural events in Western Europe.

Although Art Brussels has been around since 1968, the fair keeps lifting up its contemporary profile, with an equal mix of young and established galleries. The fair has never been so international, with 33 countries represented, with an increasing number of galleries coming from N. York. In total 191 galleries were selected out of 420 applications. The main sections of the Art Fair are: Prime: Consists of 87 recognized galleries that will present the work of established artists. Young: Consists of 90 galleries presenting younger-generation artists and is an important part of Art Brussels’ discovery profile. Art Brussels wishes to encourage the work of these galleries, which support emerging artists, and has therefore instigated the YOUNG PRIZE in memory of Karen Renders, which is awarded each year to the gallery that has made the most original and engaging presentation in the fair. Discovery: A new section launched this year comprising 14 galleries each representing emerging and up-and-coming artists whose work is not yet known to a wider public in Western Europe. Solo: As in previous years, Art Brussels continues to place emphasis on individual presentations of artists with 31galleries presenting Solo projects. The best Solo artist is awarded with a prize of 10.000 euros. Each year, Art Brussels selects an artist to conceive their creative campaign. Selected this year was Belgian artist Nick Hannes. The artist has produced a photographic series in which he successfully captures the essence of Brussels by documenting the city’s unique characteristics.
