ART FAIRS:Supermarket Independent 2015 In Stockholm

Supermarket is an Art Fair run by artists. Artist-run galleries and similar initiatives from around the world show the work of hundreds of artists at the Fair. With its clear mission and its program for networking meetings, Supermarket has become a unique platform for Swedish and international artists.

Supermarket Independent Art Fair has been arranged since 2007 by a small group most of whom are artists themselves. Supermarket is a development of Minimarket, which was held at Konstnärshuset in February 2006 in reaction to the new commercial art fair Market. Initiated and organized by artists, this project has rapidly evolved from a modest group of local initiatives to a full-fledged international art exhibition that has made its mark and helped firmly establish Stockholm on the art world map. The goal of Supermarket Independent Art Fair is to provide a showcase for artists’ initiatives from all over the world and to create opportunities for new networks in the Swedish and international art scenes. It is also an art fair that strives to offer the visitor an experience, rather than focusing on sales. Exhibiting this year are 64 galleries from 29 countries. On the program is also the performance stage Red Spot and seminar program TALKS. This year the TALKS seminar program examine ‘Invisibility – who represents who?’ in which on investigation is, which artists are educated, which artists are selected and where the interpretative prerogative lies. RED SPOT shows experimental and innovative performance acts by Swedish and international artists, this year from Estonia, Spain, Ireland and Finland. Talks and Performances take place in three places, within Supermarket’s venue Svarta Huset and at Konstfack.
