ART FAIRS:Paris Internationale 2018
The 4th Edition of Paris Internationale continues the effort to support a young generation of galleries and their artists. But 2018 marks a return to the spirit of Paris Internationale’s inaugural edition. Moving back to a domestic set-up, a five storied Haussmannian building, the fair also chose to scale down in order to enhance a more intimate experience for exhibitors and visitors alike thus fostering dialogue.

42 galleries from 21 countries are participating in Paris Internationale 2018, also following the open-call to non-profits, the Fair reviewed over 150 applications and selected 8 international spaces to participate: 650mAh (Hove), Artkartell projectspace (Budapest), Atlanta Contemporary (Atlanta), Cordova (Barcelona), Goswell Road (Paris), ICA (London), Life Sport (Athens), The Performance Agency (Berlin). Paris Internationale was established in 2015 as an innovative alternative to traditional Art Fairs and with the goal to support a young generation of galleries. In only three editions, it has developed into a vital instrument for promoting the work of emerging artists and rediscovering more established figures. Collegial and associative, Paris Internationale was born out of a will to take control of its own future and to propose an exclusive event in Paris. Far from the rigid organization of more classical Fairs, Paris Internationale operates on a small committee. Its structure is dynamic and reactive, allowing for a maxi-mal liberty. “Conversation Piece I”, is a public program of discursive events to take place within Paris Internationale was conceived and coordinated by The Performance Agency, a Berlin based platform founded in 2017 with the aim of investigating genre-crossing possibilities and bringing together personalities from different fields to enact new performative happenings. For the 4th edition of the fair, The Performance Agency brings the skirt of Marie Antoinettento Paris. Created by Maria Loboda as a stage, changing room and hideaway for participants of the performance festival Mass X in Berlin — in collaboration with Archivio Conz and Supportico Lopez — the structure of the ballgown now functions as a public pavilion for a series of private conversations to take place under the skirt, in the comfort and privacy of the Boudoir: The Performance Agency invites the audience to meet and hold one-on-one conversations with a series of experts across the fields of art, politics, performance, medicine, diplomacy, journalism, technology and finance, as a testament to the conversation’s deep and singular transformational potential. Paris Internationale also is inaugurating “Daily Dérives”, a new program of conversations which will take form as commented visits of this 4th edition lead by a pair of key figures. As they progress through the four floors of the venue, artists, curators, critics, teachers, collectors will exchange about the artworks on view in a flâneur spirit.
