ARCHITECTURE: David Chipperfield Architects-Works 2018
David Chipperfield Architects was founded in London by David Chipperfield in 1985. The practice has since won numerous international competitions and built over 100 projects. Its diverse international body of work includes cultural, residential, commercial and educational buildings and spaces for both the private and public sectors, as well as civic projects and urban masterplans.

David Chipperfield Architects has offices in London, Berlin, Milan and Shanghai, this contribute to the wide range of projects and typologies. The practice’s work is characterised by meticulous attention to the concept and details of every project, and a relentless focus on refining design ideas to arrive at a solution which is architecturally, socially, and intellectually coherent. The City of Vicenza, in collaboration with the cultural association Abacoarchitettura, has invited David Chipperfield Architects to create the exhibition “David Chipperfield Architects Works 2018” at the Basilica Palladiana in Venice. In the exhibition is on presentation a selection of 16 current and recent projects at various stages of their development, illustrating the range of activities that take place in an architecture studio today. The material varies from rough sketches and models relating to the beginning of the design process, to detail design and construction drawings at the end of the design process, and includes photographs and films of recently completed projects. The presentation for each project has been developed by the respective design teams in the London, Berlin, Milan and Shanghai offices, so demonstrating the desire to address cultural, professional and intellectual challenges. The installation itself consists of a wide central space running the length of the hall, flanked on both sides by smaller exhibition rooms. These rooms display current projects described and illustrated in a manner appropriate to the project and emphasizing the ideas behind it. While the rooms place emphasis on active work, the central open zone provides the setting for an introductory overview of key buildings completed since the practice was founded in 1985.
