OPEN CALL:New Master of Professional Studies Graduate Degree in UX Design

New Master of Professional Studies Graduate Degree in UX DesignMaryland Institute College of Art (MICA) invites applications for a new online Master of Professional Studies (MPS) graduate degree in User Experience Design (UX Design). The program joins MICA’s existing Business of Art & Design and Information Visualization online MPS degrees, all of which are designed for recent graduates or working professionals to complete in 15 months.

UX Design (Online MPS): Students in the MPS in UX Design master fundamental principles of interface design, project management, prototyping and usability as applied to industries from gaming to healthcare and education to defense. Industry partners bring real-world projects to the classroom and advise students on networking, best practices and the dynamic nature of the profession. Graduates leave with a portfolio of compelling and innovative UX design solutions to support their professional aspirations. This program serves designers (game, graphic/visual, industrial, web and mobile), communications professionals, technologists, and those with an interest in coding or human-computer interaction.

Faculty: The UX Design MPS faculty is composed of accomplished professionals, including: Glennette Clark, founder and CDO of Lazy Smart Consulting and Director of Marketing and Communications for UXPA International; Howard Eaton, Senior Human Systems Engineer at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory; Catharine Robertson, who applies 20 years of UX design experience to enterprise health IT challenges and organizes the Baltimore UX Meetup; and Rahshia Sawyer, Principal UX Design Lead at CapitalOne.

Online learning: Faculty members hold weekly live classes, allowing students to discuss topics with faculty and classmates. Online students have access to the same resources as residential students, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Lynda.com, MyMICA, Decker Library and Media Resources Center and Business Source Premier, the industry’s most used business research database.

Residencies: Community—both online and onsite—is important to the MICA ethos. Three mini-residencies bring UX Design students to campus to discuss emerging ideas, learn project management practices and strategies, and develop skills in applications and programming. All MPS program residencies take place on campus simultaneously, providing cross-cohort and inter-disciplinary collaborations and a community of business-minded creatives.

Application deadline: 1/7/17
