Richard Buckminster Fuller (12/7/1895-1/7/1983) was a 20th Century inventor and visionary who did not limit himself to one field but worked as a comprehensive anticipatory design scientist to solve global problems. Fuller’s ideas and work continue to influence new generations of designers, architects, scientists and artists working to create a sustainable planet. Fuller wrote over twenty books, hundreds of articles, and thousands of hours of speeches, and took copious volumes of notes. In the book “Your Private Sky. The Art of Design Science” (1999) that has been reprint by Lars Müller Publishers the reader examines and documents Fuller’s theories, ideas and projects, and explores his ideology of “rescue through technology”. As an architect, engineer, entrepreneur and poeta technologist with a poet’s imagination who already developed theories of environmental control in the thirties and who anticipated the globalization of our planet. Catchphrases of our time like “Spaceship Earth”, “synergetic” or “think global, act local” can directly or indirectly be traced back to Bucky.
