BOOK:Ellsworth Kelly,Phaidon Publications
Ellsworth Kelly was painter, sculptor, and printmaker. He was a leading exponent of the hard-edge style, in which abstract contours are sharply and precisely defined. Though often associated with Minimalism, Kelly preceded the Movement by a decade. The monograph “Ellsworth Kelly” by Phaidon Publications was created in collaboration with the artist. This book is the only complete monograph to cover Kelly’s entire career (mostly painting, some sculpture, no drawings), focusing on key phases and works of art from all periods. A survey text and narrative chronology by Kelly expert Tricia Y Paik features new insights from the artist following in-depth interviews, as well as never-before-published images, sketches and other material from his personal archives. Other essays by: Robert Storr, Gavein Delahunty, Richard Schoff, and Gary Garrels, explore Kelly’s career chronologically, with vibrant, full page color plates punctuating the text. A dedicated chronology and selected bibliography close this well-designed and up-to-date publication.–Dimitris Lempesis
