TRAVELER’S DIARY: Landscape Around Greece, Part II
Dimitris Lempesis with his lens, observes and lists the Landscapes of Greece, initially and then he is spiriting the “Neighborhoods of the World”, not with the passion and the discipline of a document but with the insatiable eye of the artist. That is why, his subjects, forms and light, do not obey the regulatory rules and forms of photography only, but mostly of painting -landscape painting- in combination with architecture.

Landscapes externally dissimilar like the one of Delos Island, converses with Meteora through the blue sky and that of Hydra Island to the particular architecture of Paris and Rome, from the series the ”The Face of the City”, coexist and stand shoulder to shoulder, with a common axis and conceptual starting point of contemporary art and the multiple readings that can offer us, in matters already known, but expressed in new ways, ideas and thoughts. Dimitris Lempesis is not interested only on iconography but the freedom that offers him by the landscape, the nature and the absolute freedom. Something that for others is an obstacle and have the need of delimitation, enables him to reposition and redefine his limits since every image for him, every landscape contains sociological labeling, through the ultimate abstraction. He is not using visual games and effects. For him, the horizon does not represent the beauty and the retinal lubricity, but the lines that unite the mind and soul of the artist, the philosopher, the politician, the thinker… These are the mirror of the personal experiences, struggles and concerns raised and carried by the artist, as he was deeply Politically aware, uncompromising, really free, but saw his vision to be betrayed and trivialized, through the social and political frustration, art helps him to transmute his experiences into images, creating through landscape, atopy, subtracting essentially every local element that refers to the specific, creating a personal human geography.
