ART ISLANDS:Poros-Yannis Adamakos
Yannis Adamakos’ painting revolves around three fundamental elements: space, figure and light. From these arise the relationships, which define a work in the visual arts, relationships which are repeated and re-evaluated throughout the duration of his career that spans 30 years. The expressionist nature, the alternating of light and dark regions, the allusive gradations of colour are certain a part of his work.

Yannis Adamakos’ solo exhibition “Re-emergence-Frontier of Memory” is the second part of CITTRONE Gallery thematic exhibitions that for 2017 as a theme the “Boundaries”. Starting from his first solo exhibition (1978) in Athens and mainly after 1980 he presents his work in contiguous thematic series that are centered on man and nature. The choices of the artist (small or large sizes, dark or luminous tones, color intensities or monochromes, mixed materials, unified or broken compositions, etc.) highlight each series as a different phase of the evolving figure and landscape relationship. In his “Re-emergence” series of works the artists at first seeks to create an atmosphere freely, without being bound by realistic restrictions, introducing a new element, the geometric organisation of the pictorial space. In the exhibition are on presentation large-size oils paintings and small aquarelles. The large works aim at extending into space, not allowing, that is, the viewer any latitude for being distracted from the painting, from the work. The small aquarelles function independently but at the same time as designs-studies for the large works. The series is mainly dominated by mauve and blue and the space has steady light that allows the viewer to see the reflections that are brought to the fore. Reflections of the light itself or reflections of figures of stage and vertical structures that appear to rise or to emerge out of the sometimes palpable and sometimes implicit liquid element. Yannis Adamakos was born in Pyrgos, Greece in 1952. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts, under D. Mytaras, Y. Mavroidis and P. Tetsis. He went to Paris for independent studies, where he was familiarized with contemporary art and the great classical works of the past. He has taught drawing and painting in the Chalkis Art Workshop and the Vakalo College of Art & Design. Over the past few years, he has acquired a studio in Tinos Islang.
