ART FAIRS:Art Basel 2017
The first Art Basel, was held in Basel, Switzerland in 1970 and the concept of the Founders: Ernst Beyeler, Trudi Bruckner and Balz Hilt, was to bring together gallerists, collectors and art professionals to see the best art works of 20th century from around the world. Art Basel has been described as the “Olympics of the Art World”.

The 48th Edition of Art Basel in Basel features 291 International galleries from 35 countries that present artworks ranging from the early 20th Century to contemporary artists, 17 galleries participate for the first time, including 3 Galleries from the Asia Pacific Region and 1 from Africa. The core of Art Basel’s show is its Galleries sector that features 226 exhibitors. This year’s strong list of returning participants is joined by 10 galleries exhibiting inthe sector for the first time, having previously participated in the show’s project based sectors, Feature and Statements. Projects from established and historical artists are precisely curated by gallerists in the Feature sector, 32 galleries with precise curatorial projects, showing both historical and contemporary work. Projects may include solo presentations, juxtapositions, and thematic exhibits from artists representing a wide range of cultures, generations, and artistic approaches. Every year, the work of emerging artists and young galleries can be discovered through solo presentations in the Statements sector. 18 galleries take part in the sector this year with 8 newcomers exhibiting for the first time at the Basel show. Dedicated to prints and limited-editioned works, the Edition sector brings together 15 publishers of editioned works, prints, and multiples exhibit the results of their collaboration with renowned artists, providing visitors the opportunity to see significant and rare publications. Unlimited, Art Basel’s unique platform for projects that transcend the limitations of a traditional art-fair stand, presents 70 works ranging from large-scale sculptures and paintings to video projections, installations and live performances. Further details will be announced in the coming months. Parcours, is a series of site-specific sculptures, interventions and performances presented by Art Basel galleries. Parcours takes place around Basel’s Münsterplatz and is open to the public free of charge. Conversations and Salon, the program of talks and panel discussions which accompanies the gallery presentations in Basel, offers audiences access to first-hand information on the international art world. In its Film Program Art Basel screens of 34 film and video works presented by the show’s participating galleries.
