EP135_install“Dark Incandescence” is the new solo exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by Elizabeth Peyton. Since 2007 Peyton has incorporated the still life into her range of subjects with works such as Pati (2007), Balzac + Roses (2008),Flaubert + Madame Bovary (Elephants) (2008), Camille Claudel and Flowers (Still Life) (2009), Actaeon, Justin Bieber and Grey Roses (2010), Flowers, Lichtenstein, Parsifal (2011), and Berlin, Hyacinth and Black Teapot(2014). Subjects of her previous works have included Napoleon, Kurt Cobain, Queen Elizabeth II, Georgia O’Keeffe, Balzac, Richard Wagner, Elias Bender Rønnenfelt, Paris, Klara Lidén, Isa Genzken, Sid Vicious, Jonas Kaufmann in Massenet’s opera, Werther, David Bowie, Tony Just, Jonathan Horowitz, Keith Richards, Tim Riggins from Friday Night Lights, and Barack and Michelle Obama, amongst many others.
