ART-REVIEW:FIAC 2016
More than ever a refreshing International fresh breeze was blowing in the FIAC 2016 at Grand Palais in Paris, confirming the fact that we are observing lately, that the focus in Contemporary Art is shifting from London and Berlin to Paris in the coming years and the city gains a part of its old prestige, but with a completely different way, thus making Paris the next Metropolitan Center of Contemporary Art. This fact is confirmed both by the exhibitions presented at the Monaie de Paris and in the Galleries at the same period (20-23/10/16). The works that were on presentation, the arrangement and the organization of FIAC were of the highest level with great artists, American and European Gallery to compete each other. The Preview for journalists and collectors was crowded with warm feedback. The On Site sector at the Petit Palais, assembled around works by 36 important artists was un-isobaric, at one hand, while the artworks were large, the imposing spaces of Petit Palais exceeded them, so the dialogue between Contemporary Art & Classical Architecture was in favor of Architecture, on the other the dialogue of the outdoor works with the Jardin du Petit Palais, and the esplanade in front of the building, was extremely successful as does the result. The outdoor works in the Jardin des Tulliers where FIAC was extending were too many, seemed scattered and without a central axis, making the viewer actually to lose his focus. Both works by Ugo Rondinone at Place Vandome, had no continuity and consistency neither between them or with the space and the architecture, in contrast with the works and models of architecture at Palais Royal, compensated even the most tired and demanding viewer of a really big, meaty and full of images and stimuli route.-Efi Michalarou
