BOOK:MAD Works-MAD Architects, Phaidon Publications

book 1The skylines of modern China are punctuated by architecture that amazes, inspires, and awes. Many of these structures are the work of new, experimental practices like China-based MAD Architects founded by the Beijing-born architect Ma Yansong, who is recognized as an important voice in the new generation of architects. He is the first Chinese architect to win an overseas landmark-building project. In recent years, many of Ma’s designs follow his conception of the “Shanshui City”, which is his vision to create a new balance among society, the city and the environment through new forms of architecture. In 2014, Ma was selected as the principal designer for Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Chicago, which made him the first Chinese architect to design overseas culture landmark. The book “MAD Works-MAD Architects” is the first complete overview of the most important contemporary Architecture practice ever to have emerged from China, it not only documents the buildings of this group of Avant-Garde architects but also traces the development of their ideas through associated practice including art, research, and exhibition projects. Organized thematically, the book explores the underlying concepts of MAD Architects’ work. The book is illustrated with photographs, architectural drawings, and 3D visualizations to provide a thorough exploration of MAD Architect’s international portfolio of completed works, unbuilt projects, and future ideas.-Dimitris Lempesis
