BOOK:Adolf Krischanit,Cantz Publications

00This publication surveys the eclectic projects of Austria-based architect Adolf Krischanit, covering every genre from furniture to museum design. Besides making buildings for living and working, Adolf Krischanitz also specializes in buildings for art and culture. Most recently, for instance, are his 21 Haus in Vienna and the Temporary Kunsthalle on the Schlossplatz in Berlin, excellent examples of what architecture in the service of art can look like. Otto Kapfinger, architecture theorist and journalist has conceived an open structure for the book, impressively conveying Krischanitz’s special approach, his apparently minimalist aesthetics, and the sublime style of his buildings. Organized according to themes and concepts, the essays explore the architect’s impact on intersecting points, such as architecture/urban planning, theory/practice, and architecture/contemporary art, but ultimately leave the last word to beautiful architectural expression. From 1974 through 1987 Adolf Krischanitz was a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and from 1988 to 1989, a guest professor at the Technical University of Munich. Since 1992, he has been a professor of design and urban development at the Berlin University of the Arts. Krischanitz has been a freelance architect in Vienna since 1979, the same year in which he co-founded the magazine UM BAU (About Building). He served as the chairman of the Austrian Society for Architecture in 1982, and from 1991 to 1995 he was president of the Vienna Secession. In 2004 he became a partner and managing director of the architecture firm Krischinatz & Frank.-Efi Michalarou
