Jeff Koons is widely regarded as one of the most popular, and controversial artists of the postwar era. Throughout his career, he has pioneered new approaches to the readymade, tested the boundaries between advanced art and mass culture, challenged the limits of industrial fabrication, and transformed the relationship of artists to the cult of celebrity and the global market. Sculpture, photography, painting, ready made and a collage of icons appeal him and these are the various means of expression that has used and uses. In his solo exhibition “FOR WE CAN NEVER TALK SERIOUSLY (The Girl’s School of Volos)” Alexandros Psychoulis investigates the sociopolitical dimensions of language based on a real incident related with the so-called “Greek Language debate”, namely a reformative pedagogical experiment: the foundation of the Higher Girl’s School of Volos in 1908, with Alexandros Delmouzos appointed as director. Indian Waves by Howard Hodgkin, some thirty gouaches inspired by India and hand-painted by Hodgkin in England between 1990 and 1991. These strongly evocative impressions of the exotic horizon so beloved by Hodgkin were forgotten for more than twenty years. Brought to light recently, their emotional immediacy and bright vigour is undiminished by time.
