MIRAGES XXV
This month is dedicated to Switzerland and the three major artistic events associated with the country. First of all LISTE Art Fair 2016, Art Basel’s younger fair featuring emerging art and galleries, LISTE celebrates its 21st anniversary in 2016. LISTE 2016 (14-19/6/16) under the leadership of Peter Bläuer, with a lineup of 79 leading galleries of a new and middle generation from 34 countries 11 of which are participating for the first time, introduces 140 artists. Over the last several years, emerging galleries have begun incorporating older artists, sometimes also re-discoveries into their programs. LISTE has responded to this change by allowing galleries to also introduce those artistic positions belonging to an older generation. The fair’s focus and the vast majority of the artists presented at LISTE are and will continue to be under 40. LISTE is the stepping stone for Art Basel but also is the passport and the guarantee for every major organization. For our magazine the collaboration with LISTE 2016 is recognition of our continuous and tireless work, which is objective with a truly international character.
Although the interest of the International art scene in turned in Basel, do not forget Zurich that hosts Manifesta 11 (11/6-18/9/16). Manifesta examines the cultural topography of Europe and implements it in an artistic manner. Under the leadership of Christian Jankowski, Manifesta 11 takes up the theme of “What People Do For Money: Some Joint Ventures”. Various artists address this question and elaborate on it in an artistic way. As epilogue Art Basel’s European Edition (16-19/6/15) is the one of the world’s most internationally-recognized art fairs, bringing together artists, collectors, museum directors and curators during a multi-day event that brings nearly 90,000 visitors from across the globe. The Fair is organized around eight sectors, which together encompass a vast range of artistic mediums. The popular Parcours sector is site-specific. This year, 19 artworks will be on display around the city and neighboring districts. Highlights include American artist Sam Durant’s steel chain maze “Labyrinth” and Chilean sculptor Iván Navarro’s “Traffic”, set in a disused sewage tunnel.
