Many of the artists represented by Berlin galleries currently live in Berlin or have done so in the past, growing in close connection to and with their galleries. The city’s continuous transformation facilitated open spaces from which sprung an art scene that was experimental, crossed genres, and freed itself from conventions. An understanding of the ‘gallery’ emerged that prompted exhibitions in spaces that redefined the very term. All participating galleries host exhibition openings on 29/4/16. The program abounds with highlights, including a joint presentation by galleries NEU and Plan B exhibit Romanian painter Victor Man, Carlier Gebauer hosts Iman Issa’s first show with the gallery, KEWENIG will present Ghada Amer, Capitain Petzel presents an exhibition by photographer Christopher Williams, Blain – Southern will exhibit the works of Harland Miller, Galerie Buchholz presents Wolfgang Tillmans, Delmes & Zander host Horst Ademeit, while Mike Bouchet is at Peres Projects. The Gallery Weekend starts on 27/4/16 at the Schinkel Pavillon with an exhibition with works of Adam Linder, Shahryar Nashat and Hannah Weinberger also a lot of Museums and Private Collections participate on the event, the full program can be read here.
