Grigoria Vryttia’s artistic practice is a multidimensional exploration of form, materiality, and narrative. Her work encompasses soft sculptures, ceramics, drawings on paper and fabric using thread, as well as photographic self-portraits. Through these mediums, she constructs a fantastical universe where linear elements, pop aesthetics, vibrant colors, and narrative disruptions shape a visual world that balances between dream and reality.

In her work, Grigoria Vryttia explores the boundaries between fantasy and reality, emphasizing the relationship between objects and the space surrounding them. Recurring motifs include mythical creatures and monsters inspired by global mythologies, literature, and cinema. The line—whether as a traditional drawing on paper or thread sewn onto fabric—serves as the fundamental structural element of her art. Portraits, primarily of girls with closed eyes, archetypal objects, and plants function as visual metaphors for existential quests and introspection. In the exhibition “Draw on Every Surface”, Grigoria Vryttia reflects on her fifteen-year journey in the field of drawing, presenting works that highlight the dynamic and autonomous nature of the practice. Drawing, often considered a preparatory stage for other arts, here acquires an independent presence. In contemporary art, the boundaries between drawing and other forms of expression have blurred, allowing for new creative approaches and experimentation. One of the most intriguing aspects of this evolution is the intersection of drawing and embroidery. Traditionally categorized as craft, embroidery has been adopted by artists as an alternative means of exploring line and texture. In Vryttia’s work, the drawn and stitched line interact, creating layered compositions where materiality and tactility play a central role. The transformation of the line into stitching adds depth and highlights the significance of drawing as a gesture that transcends the limits of the two-dimensional surface. Grigoria Vryttia approaches drawing as an ever-evolving language, constantly redefined through new techniques and materials. Her work invites the audience to perceive the line not only as a visual element but also as a tactile, material experience. Through her practice, she creates an artistic space where drawing is liberated from its traditional constraints, evolving into a medium of storytelling, introspection, and aesthetic exploration. The exhibition “Draw on Every Surface” is an invitation to discover drawing beyond conventional surfaces, to see it as a dynamic field of experimentation that continues to captivate and inspire.
