BOOK:Louise Nevelson Remembered: Sculpture and Collages, Pace Gallery

Louise Nevelson, a leading sculptor of the twentieth century, pioneered site-specific and installation art with her monochromatic wood sculptures made of box-like structures and nested objects. Made in memory of Louise Nevelson, the paper portfolio “Nevelson Remembered: Sculpture and Collages” by Pace Gallery opens to reveal a selection of materials that encompass the sculptor’s career, including brochures, accordion-fold leaflets, a collection of postcards, and loose images of her artworks. Exhibition catalog published in conjunction with show held 31/3-29/4/1989. The portfolio-catalogue consists of a set of items enclosed in folded black “slipcase” and exterior black mailing envelope. Contents include a staple-bound 18 page booklet, a folder with loose pages of remembrances by various people, a smaller staple-bound 16 page booklet, a booklet of attached postcards, and 6 other loose printed ephemeral items. Remembrances by Arnold B. Glimcher, Hilton Kramer, Merce Cunningham, John Cage, Diana MacKown, Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, Jean Lipman, Jim Dine, William Katz, Edward Albee, Willy Eisenhart, Emilt Genauer, and Lucas Samaras. An interview with Nevelson by Arne Glimcher from 1976 accompanies twelve letters of remembrance by her friends and peers, among them Edward Albee, Lucas Samaras, Diana MacKown, Hilton Kramer, Jean Lipman, and John Cage.-Efi Michalarou
