OPEN CALL: Art Explora—Cité internationale des arts Residency Programme 2025

Art Explora, the international foundation that fosters new encounters between arts and audiences, locally, nationally and internationally, is pleased to announce that the call for applications for the Art Explora—Cité internationale des Arts Residency Programme 2025 is now open.

Committed to supporting international artists, Art Explora created in 2021 a biannual residency programme in collaboration with the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. Since its first edition, this residency programme has welcomed over 80 residents of all ages, disciplines and nationalities, at the Cité internationale des arts—Montmartre site in the heart of Paris.

Until November 8, 2024, artists and collectives of artists, researchers and curators from all around the world are invited to apply for this unique residency programme, with projects that question relations between art, science and technology, and address social and ecological issues of our time. The fifth edition of the residency programme will be divided in two sessions of six months, respectively starting in March and September 2025.

In partnership with the new Vila 31 x Art Explora residency program in Albania, two artists will be selected to participate in an exchange between Paris and Tirana. The program consists of a three-month residency at the Villa Montmartre and a three-month residency at Villa Tirana in Albania.

Three residency programs are offered:

SOLO Programme: Open to artists only, for residencies of 3 or 6 months during 2 sessions: March-August 2025 and September 2025-February 2026.

COLLECTIVE Programme: Open to collectives or duos of artists, researchers, and curators, for a 3-month residency during 4 sessions: March-May 2025 / June-August 2025 / September-November 2025 / December 2025-February 2026.

CROSS RESIDENCY Programme with Vila 31 x Art Explora in Tirana, Albania: 2 SOLO artists will be selected to participate in a cross residency programme : 3 months in Tirana and 3 months in Paris. Tirana (May to July 2025) – Paris (September to November 2025) / Tirana (September to November 2025) – Paris (December 2025 to February 2026).

If you are interested in the COLLECTIVE programme, only one application should be submitted by one of the collective members.
For this programme, only one studio-apartment (one room with a double bed, a workspace, a kitchen, and a bathroom) can be made available to one member of the collective. The workspace can be shared with other members.

If you are interested in applying to multiple programmes, you must submit a separate application for each programme.

As part of this residency programme, Art Explora and the Cité internationale des Arts provide 8 studio-apartments.

Each resident receives:

A 3 or 6-month residency at the Cité internationale des arts – Montmartre site, in Paris.
A furnished and equipped studio-apartment of approximately 50m² (one double bed).
A living allowance of 1000 euros per month.
A production grant of 3000 euros.
A round-trip journey to Paris.

NB: For the cross-residency programme, during the Tirana phase, the living grant amount is 600 euros per month, and the production grant is 1500 euros according to the conditions of the Art Explora x Vila 31 residency programme in Tirana. Find more information on the Art Explora Website

NB : For the Collective programme, only one studio-apartment (a bedroom with a double bed, a workspace, a kitchen and a bathroom) can be made available only for one member from the  collective. The workspace may be shared with the researcher or other members of the collective. The living grant will be paid only to the resident housed at the Cité internationale des arts de Montmartre and a common production grant will be allocated to the project.

The residency programmes are designed to support a project in its entirety or just one stage of it: no output is required at the end of the residency.
