PERFORMANCE:Fani Sofologi-The Illustrated History Of Everyday Life
In the performance “The illustrated history of everyday life”, the cultural “encounter” between two countries Greece and Germany, with a contradictive relationship that unfolds through time, occured through the presentation of posters with mundane matters that have been collected from diferent places, from the two countries. I presented to the audience ten pairs of quite similar posters collected form the two countries between 2007-2011. I gave them time to examine the posters and then I adressed to them one – quite tricky – question about both posters. Actually, they had to choose among two to four given answers from a group questionaire. The semantics of everyday life, the power of image, the stereotypes and the prejudices, in the way we perceive them, the relationship between marketing and aesthetics are the elements that this performance deals with. Each participant was asked to come face to face with him/herself at first and afterwards to answer honestly simple questions and be confronted with internal pseudo-conflicts related to unwisely/shallow thinking and conclusions on social political issues. The questions and dilemmas posed in this performance required the activation and the involvement of the viewers. During the performance I realised that, pseudo-dilemma and the truth every time there was questioned and under negotiation. The performance “The illustrated history of everyday life” took place in the context of the exhibition “BOUND”, curated by Sofia Touboura, Nana Sachini & Maria Lianou. -Fani Sofologi
