BOOK:Rome Eternal City,Skira Editore
“Rome: Eternal City” by Skira Editore, presents Rome seen through the eyes of over a Century and a half of architectural experts. These photographs of Rome, selected from the thousands within the RIBA Collections, are divided into four complementary sections: Antiquity, Modernity, Urban Landscapes and Atmospheres. The selection of photographs and their arrangement in sequences, suggested by visual analogies, are intended to stimulate appraisal through the construction of a timeless narrative. Having famassed architectural photography since the conception of photographic media, the RIBA now contains one of the largest such collections in the world. Over time, that collection captured Rome from landscape to close archeological detail, through history ranging from antiquity to contemporary structures. The photographers featured include James Anderson, Tim Benton, Richard Bryant, Ralph Deakin, Ivy and Ivor de Wolfe, Richard Pare, Monica Pidgeon and Edwin Smith. Their images date from the birth of the medium to the present day. “Rome: Eternal City” also includes essays on related topics, such as the origins of photography in Rome, the hold Rome has had on British photographers and filmmakers, and others.-Dimitris Lempesis
