BOOK:Nasan Tur, Revolver Publishing Berlin
Nasan Tur not seldom sees himself unconsciously confronted with everyday occurrences; through art, he takes the opportunity to bring the viewer into the confidence and to refer to the responsibility of society as a whole. With 232 pages, the catalog “Nasan Tur” is published on the occasion of the exhibitions in the Kunstvereins Nordhorn, Göppingen and Oldenburg. It includes the works of the artist from 2014 to 2017. Nasan Tur’s work reflect the social conditions in which it is produced, often exploring political ideologies, subliminal messages, and the symbols of power and dissent that are present throughout the urban landscape. An exploration of the tension between public action and inaction is intrinsic to his practice, with a participatory element often implicating the subjectivity or presence of the viewer. The boundaries of communication, as well as the tentative, or fragile nature of perception, are both driving forces behind the practice of the artist, and many of the situations that he creates. Often Nasan Tur plays with words. As in “Variationen von Kapital”, a work in which a computer program devised 41,000 ways to write the word “capital”, which always sounds the same phonetically. In doing so, he stripped the word of its weight, dissolved it and bestowed it with something playful and light.-Efi Michalarou
