ART-PRESENTATON: Barbara Spirouli-Spaces of Places
For “Spaces of Places”, her 8th solo exhibition, Barbara Spirouli presents works from the last 3 years and their installation in space. The works she is presenting are sculptural forms-installations of grids-shapes of a fluid geometry that operate in space and are defined as passages, routes between the place of the grids and the space within which they are suspended.

In his text accompanying the exhibition, Emmanuel Mavrommatis notes that already from her early exhibitions Barbara Spiroulis’ work was about “… the selection of a system capable of adjusting to different conditions and in which the main juxtaposition related to two coordinates: the generality of the system capable of adjusting to the different, every time, situations of each space and the specificity of the situations, the locality of the situations, to specify, every time, the generality of the multiple functions of the system. This idea followed her throughout her life as a rule of behaviour or as the regulator of her work and meant that the function of the artist is to claim the adjustment of the idea in an regime of specific situations as the precondition for the idea to become form but also for the idea to be identifiable in its every application”. The work “Shell” represents the perception of a sculpture whose geometry is liquid and tends to vary each time according to its internal tensions and forces. These tensions are not provided, but may be recorded by the artist post hoc, forming a possible biography. This biography is the artwork. The exhibition is accompanied by preparatory drawings and video animation works that develop stylistically in the space.
