Richter Catalogue Raisonné. Volumes 1-6     Hatje Cantz PublicationsOver a period of six decades, Gerhard Richter has built up a stylistically heterogeneous and conceptually complex body of painting, photography, sculpture and artist’s books that firmly establishes his status as the most important living artist of our time: today, this diverse oeuvre totals in excess of 3,000 individual works. The six-volume scholarly catalogue raisonné of all the paintings and sculptures features numerous full-page color reproductions of the works, as well as complete technical information on all of the art and the artist’s handwritten notes, as well as provenance, exhibitions, and reference literature. Commentary, quotations, and comparative images of individual catalogue items round out the material. Edited by Dietmar Elger, director of the Gerhard Richter Archive at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, who has spent years researching and preparing the publication Gerhard Richter Catalogue Raisonné is composed till today by 5 volumes: Vol 1, includes the work numbers 1 to 198, from the years 1962 to 1968, which Richter himself assigned to the works. Vol 2 encompasses the works that Richter assigned numbers 199 to 388, covering the years 1968 to 1976. A total of over 500 paintings and sculptures are listed. Vol 3 encompasses the works Richter assigned numbers 389–651/2, which span the years 1976 to 1988. Vol 4 includes works from the years 1988 to 1994 with the numbers 652-1 to 805-6, which Richter himself assigned to the works. In addition to numerous images, the book also includes complete technical information for all works, his handwritten assigned titles, and the provenance of all individual works. Remarks, quotations and comparative illustrations complement the exhibition details and bibliographical references. Vol 5 includes works from the years 1994 to 2006 with the numbers 806 to 899-8.  Vol 6 will include works from the years 2007 to 2019 with the numbers 900-0000, the publication date has been programed for January 2021. In addition to numerous images, all the catalogues also include complete technical information for all works, his handwritten assigned titles, and the provenance of all individual works.
