ART-PRESENTATION:Lost Dreams

mourikis_2015_27.5x37.5The snapshots we see in the section of artworks presented by Apostolos Georgiou in his solo exhibition “Lost Dreams” in juxtaposition with the artworks of his friend Dimitris Mourikis, who is a doctor, with whom he has a creative dialogue, we have all lived them many times, without giving them an particular importance because they do not contain the expected “weight of an event” heroic, tragic or happy. Someone converses with himself in order to escape from his loneliness. His figures almost have not particular characteristics, although our believing is that not always the same person repeated. A man moves away from his company to meet another who sits alone. The artist narrates minor facts ”concerning common” people, by palpating with compassion their relations or their absence, their personal anxieties and deadlocks. In this significance, his painting is a cartography of the personal and the whispering confession. This is a painting that, although is concerning him about forty years, is more than ever relevant today with the collapse of the middle classes. Someone tries to persuade a girl who abandoned him. In his painting Dimitris Mourikis is characterized by aν unaffected simplicity, in form, in content and in technique. He paints home interiors, and folk themes, female figures discussing in front of their door, peasants returning from the fields, laborers and beggars.
